More recentish (and random) things:

Mike had another birthday a couple weeks back. He's big into comics so on his birthday we finally got ourselves over to the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. I don't consider myself a big graphic novel gal but honestly TCAF was awesome and you should go next year. I will be too. Among the goodies we bought at the show was this diamond pin from Ginette Lapomme and the crazy cool comic By This You Shall Know Him from Jesse Jacobs.

I've been spending so much time with this girl lately. This Juki that Sandi and I bought for Falconwright has been the best thing ever. I love her so very much. We have a new collection on the horizon and it's gonna be a good one.

You know when you make something new and then all you ever want to eat again is that thing? Well here's that new thing for you: Homemade. Tortillas. My mom nagged me to make them and I didn't forever but finally did. Guys- so easy.

Here is my super quick recipe:
* Get: 1 cup flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 3/4 tsp baking powder, 1 tbsp butter, 1/2 cup water
* Mix dry stuff; finely chop butter in dry stuff; Mix in about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water until it becomes doughy (add more flour if too sticky); roll up into large jet ball sized lumps and roll out on floured surface (thicker turns out kind of like naan bread, thinner is more like a tortilla wrap)
* Fry in hot dry pan until they get puffed up bubbles and get brown on one side, flip and they're done
* Eat forever with anything and everything.

Planted herbs finally. No large garden endeavor for us this year, just a few planter boxes on our porch with edibles for summer cooking.

And just because I'm in love with them, these are my new summer sandals! Oh yeah.

Recently:
1) Spring Flowers!! Super pinks that make my heart flip.
2) Did you read our last High Five post over on the Falconwright blog? Well I said I wanted to make a giant seed bead necklace and I finally did. It's heavy :)
3) Speaking of necklaces, here's one by Lazy Oaf that I got a while back that I've started wearing finally- good for happy and cranky days.
4) But also back on the DIY front, I prettied up a plain ikea lamp cord with a bit of turquoise spray paint. Not having overhead lighting requires some creativity to make crappy hanging cords look not (so) crappy.
5) Annnd balloons trapped in a billboard sign outside my living room window.

And also- I signed up for twitter! If you're into it you can follow me here

Yep. Absentee blogger right here. 2012 has really been a slacker year of blogging for me and when you're out of the habit, it's hard to get back into it. And then I start thinking: what things does the internet really need to know about me anyway? It starts a cycle that makes me overthink what I use this space for and then I don't want to write anything at all. Oh Gawd.

ANYWAY.

As a means of putting some random content on here, here is an awesome-i-wish-it-was-real-but-it's-not movie cover. Did you know I love Arnie movies? Probably not.

As soon as things start to bud and grow outside the nesting instinct kicks in for me every year.  The past three months our apartment underwent renovations. Even though the contractors were lovely and considerate (for instance, they bought me tea on a day when I was home sick from work), it's really hard to live in a place that is a mess zone. They finally finished about a week ago and I've slowly been deep cleaning, painting, rearranging and all around primping our little apartment.

The best part of our new apartment reno is that we have access to the attic above our apartment. It's a bit rough around the edges but I finally have a dedicated works space!! We've only had it for a week but the having a physical space where work lives separate from the rest of the house is already making my life so much better. I'm busy right now sewing some new Falconwright things for the spring edition of City of Craft- hope to see you there :)

Photos from a sunny stroll around my hood.  My neighbourhood, like a lot of city neighbourhoods, is an odd mix. Walking around you see abandoned buildings, train tracks and powerlines but also close by are posh restaurants, parks, large houses and a castle. Yep- a castle.

Before the new year I was on an awesome roll with blogging and then I stopped. Time just flies by and I have no idea where it goes. Probably because I am keeping busybusybusy. The day job keeps my days filled with phone calls, meetings and the like and my nights are filled with emailing and packaging up orders for Falconwright. Sandi and I have been burning the candle at both ends and the pay off has been awesome. So much work but so much fun at the same time. I can't imagine a better bud to work with. We're scheming and working on our new collection and I can't wait to share :)

Mike and I celebrated another year together and for lucky number seven he surprised me to dinner and a night of pampering at a downtown hotel. Guys- even after almost a decade together, he's still pretty great. This was a pic from our room- cellphone cam! (Remember: cellphone technology is still new to me so I'm still so excited about it even though cell phone pics are terrrrible). Future plan: take more mini time outs like this to treat myself for working hard.

Lazy weekend drinking tea in my newly purchased handmade mugs, eating these AMAZING cinnamon buns, watching Adventure Time (sooooo good), playing cards with buds, trying to stay warm (frosty windows!) and listening to this mellow Tearjerker album. What did you do?
